How To Buy and Import USA Auto Salvage

By Mark Flanighan

The sheer volume of cars owned by the residents of the USA, together with the almost essential ownership requirements of a vehicle to have form of transport, suggests that when looking to buy auto salvage the USA may have it all.

But this is where it starts to get complicated, as unlike other countries the big auto salvage auctions only allow a limited access to buying these repairable vehicles. The USA is full of licensees in business and buying Salvage cars is no exception, so getting access to auction yards through the States is almost impossible.

There is good news though and that is that America allows the sale of vehicles that can no longer be registered in the USA. This means there are scores of salvage vehicles that can only be bought for parts resale by someone with the correct license and be in the trade. If you don't live in the USA you can get access to these cars if you export the vehicle without any licenses.

There are still limitations of course, like membership to auctions and sometime paying a deposit up front before the auction starts. But if this be overcome, there can be a huge arrangement of auto salvage to buy, that only licensed breakers can buy to scrap for parts. The typical speculator is not allowed to bid on these vehicles.

There is a service that will get you through the process of selecting American auto salvage, pay a deposit and then have access to the online bidding software, to take part in live auctions. This service is called SalvageSpareFinder and is very convenient, but you will need to account for extra commission charges.

Before you buy a salvage project you should think about how to get it from the United Sates to your own country of residence. This will involve and export process at that end and an import process where you are, that normally involves a shipping company. As far as getting the vehicle from the auction to the nearest international dockside is very easy, as most auctions have connection and contacts who for a fee will ship it across country very quickly.

If this was not enough, you will have to consider any taxes involved to import your chosen auto salvage. This could be import tax, or even some sort of sale tax, obviously the rates are different depending on what your country of residence charges.
