Apartments that involve a boat to get home in Rio de Janeiro

By Mariana Ferraz

It's not likely you have heard of Ilha da Gigoia, much less been there. Unquestionably not a famed location like Ipanema or Copacabana and it's not a very large island. A quick walk will cover the complete spot and it should be known that there are no streets or cars. Being such a calm and relaxed environment makes for outstanding accommodations. If you're searching for a different vacation get away than staying at hotels, it may also amaze you that Gigoia is in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, but yet still, most people have never heard of it, let alone have they looked for apartments there.

Being amongst the largest of islands in Lagoa da Tijuca, which lies at the northern end of Barra de Tijuca, close to Barra Point Shopping. Hidden away, this particular piece of real estate is a one of the hidden treasures of Rio de Janeiro, though still reasonably close to places like Copacabana and Ipanema. Cars are not a necessity here and there are boats that transport everyone to and from the island. The boats run 24 hours, 7 days a week. It won't take you long to get to know the ferryman and local inhabitants of the island.

With someplace in the neighborhood of 2000 people living on the island, it clearly has a sense of community and without a doubt it will be an appealing place to travel to. In addition to flats and apartments, the island features local bars and restaurants. Though you won't find any hotels and it's not an extreme night life, it clearly has its charms and rentals are a real possibility. In addition to this you can also find various services including internet, laundry, a small drug store, as well as a local grocery store on the island, which can be handy.

One of the tricks though is actually discovering apartments, flats or any kind of rentals on Ilha da Gigoia. This is where it becomes crucial to know people. Being one of those "off the beaten path" kind of locations, discovering accommodations on this exotic little island haven isn't as easy as surfing the internet or opening a newspaper. In this case, it really becomes needed to get out there and meet people. If you're searching for a place to live on the island, that little hole in the wall bar placed near the "main street" has now become your portal to the neighborhood. Just ask around, eventually you speak to someone who knows someone who can point you in the right direction.

With some good fortune, you will soon find yourself in your new peaceful island home. Away from the stressful city life, sounds of traffic and basic nuisances. The perfect surroundings for anyone who is on the lookout for a little peace and quiet and a unique way of life. Not your normal holiday in hotels. So sit back, relax and enjoy the appeal that this little island life has to offer. Enjoy Rio de Janeiro in a distinct light.
